How will it benefit us?

  • Most of the equipment needed for the mission will be developed indigenously. It will lead to technological innovations, advancements, and spinoffs, and create new industries.

  • Along with that, it will inspire youth to take up sciences for national development, contribute to the Indian economy by generating employment, and establish Indian as a key player in the emerging space industry.

Why is human space exploration significant?

  • It helps to address fundamental questions about our place in the Universe and the history of our solar system.

  • Certain missions are better performed by humans, because of their versatility, intelligence, and speed, etc, than by robots. For instance, mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity traveled as far in 8 years as the Apollo astronauts traveled in 3 days.
