HPSC HCS exam preparation: New batch starting from 20th May

HCS mains is crucial as it contributes 600 marks and interview contributes 75 marks. Final merit is decided by mains and interview marks i.e total 600+75 - 675 marks.

Role of HCS prelims and preparation 

Earlier HCS prelims exam was supposed to be conducted on 30th May. But due to the corona epidemic, the HCS exam is now postponed officially by HPSC. Probably this exam will be conducted now in October or November depending on the overall situation of Corona epidemic cases. 

Therefore now students have the opportunity to prepare well especially those students who were lacking in their preparation. There are 2 papers in HCS prelims. HCS General Studies and HCS CSAT. HCS CSAT is just qualifying but HCS GS which is for General studies will be counted for whether a student is qualified for HCS mains or not. 

If you are good at CSAT which includes Maths, Reasoning, and comprehension then focus on general studies paper. Otherwise don't ignore even CSAT is just qualifying. many students despite good score in GS paper could not qualify prelims just because could not score qualifying marks in CSAT especially in UPSC and other state exams. 

What is the HCS syllabus for general studies Paper

In HCS Prelims GS questions will be asked from Ancient History, Medieval History, Modern History, Indian economy and social development, Indian geography, Physical geography, World geography, Indian polity and Governance, art and culture, current affairs, Haryana GK, and Current affairs of Haryana, national and international events. 

HCS Prelims exam pattern 

There will be 100 questions which will be in multiple-choice questions format. There will 4 options and students will have to fill in the OMR sheet the correct answer. There will be only one option correct. If the students choose the wrong option there will 0.25 marks of negative marking.

If a question is not attempted there is no negative marking for that question. Students are advised to keep 65-70 marks regularly in mock tests to keep alive hope for HCS mains.
