HCS Mains Zoology  2004 

Time : 3 Hours              Maximum Marks : 150 

Note : Attempt Five questions in all. All questions carry equal marks. Q. No. l is compulsory. Answer two questions from Part I and two questions from Part II. The parts of the same question must be answered together and must not be interposed between answers to other questions.

 

1.Write Critical notes with the help of decided cases on any four of the following:  (4 X 7.5 =30)

(a) Metamorphosis in insects

(b) Aerial adaptations in birds

(c) Abiotic factors and their role

(d) Watson-Crick model of DNA

(e) Oxidative Phosphorylation 

(f) Steroid hormone action

PART-1

  1. Write an essay on poisonous snakes of India with a brief description of poison apparatus present in them.      (30) 
  2. Define Ecosystem. Describe its various components and explain their interactions. Write a brief note on food chains.  (30) 
  3. Give an account of parasitic protozoans of man.     (30) 

PART-II 

  1. Draw a sequence of figures along with suitable written text to explain the process of meiosis.      (30) 
  2. Describe the mechanism of blood coagulation giving an account of various factors involved in this process.             (30) 
  3. Classify the carbohydrates with at least one example for each class. Show the metabolic pathway that converts glucose to lactic acid.                                                                       (30)
