Note : Attempt Five questions in all. All questions carry equal marks. Q. No. l is compulsory. Answer two questions from Part I and two questions from Part II. The parts of the same question must be answered together and must not be interposed between answers to other questions.

(d) Evolution of British paramountcy over Indian States. 

(e) Role of Christian Missions in Bengal 

(f) Constitutional development during the British rule in India. 


2.Bring out the salient features of Harappan Religion. Was it a linear progenitor of Historical Hinduism? (30) 

3. Write a detailed note on the Pallava Art.       (30) 

4.Discuss the causes for the disintegration of the Mughal Empire.  (30) 


5. Discuss the causes and impact of the Revolt of 1857. Can it be called the “War of independence’ ?             (30) 

6. Analyse the origins and objects of the Indian National Congress. Why did it fail to satisfy the extremist?       (30) 

7.  Review the educational policy of the East India Company. Was it designated to serve the imperial interests of Great Britain?  (30 )
