Indian polity is very interesting and scoring subject for civil services. It may be UPSC or HCS or RAS or any other PCS. While preparing for Indian polity following things must be kept in mind:

  • If you don’t have any polity back ground specially science or Engineering background students they must not ┬ástart with historical background of Indian polity or constitution. In most of the books such chapters are in starting. So students start preparing from that.
    • This chapter is factual and boring. Lot of acts/regulations are given and in today’s current affairs issue these topics are not related directly.
  • Polity
  • While if students start from those topics like Union executive, State executive which are highly related to day to day life activities; it will make their learning interesting.
  • So it is highly advisable that students should start from President. After President they should study Vice president , Parliament , Prime Minister , Council of Ministers , Supreme court.
  • In this way Union executive will be covered.
  • After covering Union Executive they should start State Executive- which includes Governor , State Legislature , Chief Minister , Council of Ministers , High court.
  • If these two sections are covered in starting of Indian polity not only it will easy to understand but will become interesting. As students can relate their learning with day to day happenings when they will read newspapers. After that they can move towards Historical background of the constitution and then making of the constitution , fundamental rights , directive principles of state policy , fundamental duties etc.
  • Once constitution section is covered then they can move towards constitution bodies , non constitutional bodies , local governance etc.

If students follow above pattern of learning then within 2 months they will be able to give answers of all questions of Indian polity which will be asked in civil services examinations.
